What NordPass does well
Perfect for
The complete NordPass review
NordPass is Nord Security's password manager — the same team behind NordVPN and NordLayer. It is a polished, well-priced product whose real strength is bundling: households and small teams already paying for NordVPN can add NordPass at effectively trivial cost, and the shared account graph makes it easy to manage. On its own it is not the cheapest or the most powerful option; as part of a Nord bundle it is the obvious pick.
Best for
- Existing NordVPN or NordLayer customers who want a bundled password manager.
- Consumers who want polished apps at a lower price than 1Password.
- Small businesses that want SSO and admin tooling without enterprise-tier pricing.
- Users who value modern XChaCha20 encryption over legacy AES.
Not ideal for
- Users who want an open-source, self-hostable option (use Bitwarden).
- Households that need first-class family-sharing UX (1Password Families is smoother).
- Enterprises with strict compliance or FedRAMP requirements (Keeper).
Independent verdict
NordPass is a genuinely good password manager, and inside the Nord ecosystem it is the obvious answer. The apps are polished, the pricing is competitive, and features that matter — passkey support, breach monitoring (Data Breach Scanner), email masking and secure sharing — are all present. The XChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption implementation is modern and forward-looking.
As a standalone product the value story is thinner: Bitwarden is cheaper and open source, 1Password is more polished on family and business surfaces, and Proton Pass is stronger on privacy. If you would not otherwise buy something from Nord Security, one of those three is usually the better choice.
Pricing model
NordPass Free covers unlimited passwords on one active device at a time. Premium starts around $1.49/month on a two-year plan (renewals are higher). Family covers six accounts around $2.79/month on a two-year plan. Business tiers begin around $1.99/user/month and add SSO, SCIM provisioning, activity logging and shared folders. Enterprise pricing is quoted. Bundle discounts with NordVPN and NordLocker are common.
Security architecture
NordPass uses XChaCha20-Poly1305 for vault encryption rather than AES-256 — a modern authenticated cipher chosen for resistance to side-channel attacks and better performance on constrained hardware. Keys are derived from your master password using Argon2id. The vault is end-to-end encrypted with a zero-knowledge architecture. NordPass's infrastructure has been audited by Cure53 and the company publishes a security whitepaper.
Key features
- Apps on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android and every major browser.
- Passkey creation and storage across all platforms.
- Data Breach Scanner and Password Health monitoring.
- Email masking for one-off addresses.
- Secure sharing with role-based folders.
- SSO (SAML) and SCIM provisioning on Business tier.
- Bundle pricing with NordVPN and NordLocker.
Real-world limits
Free tier limits active devices to one at a time — enough to evaluate but not to use daily. Two-year plans lock in the low headline price; renewal at year three jumps materially. Family sharing works but the vault-permissions UX is less refined than 1Password's. Not open source and not self-hostable.
Alternatives
Bitwarden wins on cost and openness. 1Password wins on family and team UX. Proton Pass wins on privacy and email aliases. Dashlane wins if you specifically want a bundled VPN inside the password manager plan. Keeper wins on regulated-enterprise fit.
Bottom line
NordPass is the right pick if you already trust Nord Security or want to bundle password management with NordVPN. On its own it is a fine product but not usually the best value in the category — Bitwarden and Proton Pass are cheaper, and 1Password is more polished.
