Our Verdict

Our Verdict on HiBob

HiBob is an HR platform — a system of record for people data — aimed at mid-market companies with staff in several countries. Its distinguishing choices are handling country-specific policy variation as a first-class concern, and putting real effort into an engagement layer employees use voluntarily, which is what keeps HR data current. It deliberately does not employ people for you or run payroll itself; it connects to payroll providers per market.

HiBob sits in the hr software space and is best suited to hr and people leaders at multinational mid-market companies replacing spreadsheets or a single-country hris.

Across our five rating lenses — ease of use, value, speed, accuracy and ROI — HiBob scores 8.6/10. That places it in the top tier of tools we've tested this year, and it comfortably earns its spot in our recommended stack.

  • Implementation is a data project, not a weekend setup
Pricing

HiBob Pricing

HiBob does not publish standard list pricing. It prices per employee per month with modules quoted separately, and implementation is typically a separate one-off. Ask explicitly what is included, what implementation costs, and which payroll providers are natively connected in your countries.

Full Review

The complete HiBob review

HiBob — the product is called Bob — is an HR platform, not an employer of record. That distinction decides whether it belongs on your shortlist at all. It will not employ anyone on your behalf in a country where you have no entity. What it will do is act as the system of record for the people you already employ, across multiple countries, with a stronger emphasis on culture, engagement and people analytics than most HRIS products in the mid-market.

Editorial Transparency
This review is based on HiBob's published product documentation rather than a hands-on implementation. HiBob does not publish standard list pricing, and we do not invent it. Module availability, payroll integrations and country capability vary — confirm all three for your footprint during the sales process.

What Bob actually is

  • Core HR — employee records, org structure, documents, onboarding and lifecycle changes for multi-country teams.
  • Time and attendance — time off policies by country, attendance and scheduling.
  • Compensation — compensation management and review cycles with approvals.
  • Performance and engagement — reviews, goals, surveys and the culture tooling HiBob is best known for.
  • People analytics — headcount, attrition and workforce reporting on one dataset.
  • Payroll connectivity — a payroll hub that connects to payroll providers per country rather than replacing them.

Where it is strong

Mid-sized multinational companies are HiBob's natural home: several hundred people, offices or remote staff across a handful of countries, and country-specific policy differences that a US-centric HRIS handles awkwardly. The engagement and communication layer also gets used, which is more than can be said for most HR systems — adoption by employees rather than only by HR is a genuine differentiator when the goal is reliable data.

What it does not do

It is not an EOR and not a global payroll bureau. Payroll runs through connected providers, so if your problem is "we need someone to legally employ a designer in Portugal", HiBob is the wrong purchase and Remote, Oyster or Deel is the right one. Nor does it manage devices or app access the way a unified workforce platform does. The realistic architecture is HiBob as the HR system of record with an EOR or payroll platform alongside it.

Implementation reality

An HRIS is a data project. Expect to spend time on org structure, country-specific leave policies, permissions and integrations with payroll and identity systems, and to nominate an internal owner. Ask about migration support and which integrations are supported natively rather than through custom work.

Pricing

HiBob quotes per employee per month by module and does not publish standard list pricing, so we quote none. Request pricing for your exact headcount and module selection, and ask explicitly what implementation costs and whether it is a one-off.

Who it is for

Growing multinational companies that already employ their people — directly or through an EOR — and need one credible HR system across countries, with engagement and analytics that people actually use. Not for companies whose immediate problem is compliant international employment.

Verdict

The best-fitting HR system of record in this cluster for multi-country mid-market teams, and complementary to rather than competitive with the EOR platforms alongside it. Buy it to run the people you employ; buy an employer of record to employ them in the first place.
